The mobile app for the HootSuite social media management dashboard received a major update today (iOS), and may have also paved the way for future upgrades. With the update, HootSuite users can now sync their social networks between their app and the web dashboard. Previously, each user would have to log into the app with their HootSuite account, yet would still have to set up their social networks, regardless of what was configured within the web dashboard.
Unfortunately, mobile HootSuite still only supports Twitter, Facebook, Facebook pages, Foursquare and LinkedIn. Interestingly, once you perform the update and log into the app, if you go to your Social Networks list, you’ll see your connected networks, as well as all of the “unsupported” networks that in your web dashboard greyed out. Hopefully that’s further indication that mobile support is coming soon!
Additionally, Enterprise users can now take advantage of Single Sign-On, as well as hide specific social networks. This is useful in a Team environment where you may want specific Team members to have restricted access. A common scenario is when you have a mix of personal and branded accounts set up within your HootSuite dashboard, but you only want your Team members to have access to monitor and post to the branded accounts.
The update also improves the security of the user authentication process, and fixes and issue that some users were experiencing when Liking or Unliking a Facebook post. An issue where some search streams weren’t updating after logging in has also been addressed. Since one of the truly powerful features of HootSuite is the ability to set up and save hashtag searches as tabs and streams, this was a critical bug fix.
