In May we talked about how businesses can leverage Delicious stacks to curate their content. In an announcement on July 22nd, Delicious stated that Stacks will be consolidated with Tags starting in early August. According to the statement:
We introduced stacks last year as a visually rich way to think about your links and we’ve been blown away by the amazing content you’ve created. But given the upcoming launch of new products from Delicious’ parent company, AVOS, and our focus on simplifying the Delicious site, we realized the value of stacks is limited for our users moving forward.
The announcement goes on to assure users that no links will be lost or removed. Instead, all Stacks will automatically be converted or merged with existing Tags. However, Stack descriptions, categories, comments, followers and link order will not be included in the migration.
Delicious states that these changes are in response to feedback from their community, so one hopes that there will not be too much backlash for the removal of this feature.
For now, if you’ve never used this feature yourself, you can take a look at my stacks at http://delicious.com/stacks/michaelallton
Have you been using Stacks? Do you foresee any impact on your usage of Delicious as a result of this change?
About Delicious
Originally founded in 2003 as a social bookmarking service, Delicious was acquired from Yahoo! in early 2011 by AVOS, a company helmed by YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. The site was rebuilt from the ground up and re-launched in fall 2011 with a new focus on curation and discovery.
